No it is not the same

gdbserver is about debugging a target. my proposition is about getting debug symbols without recompiling.

It will allow to get useful backtrace without recompiling.

Moreover because built are not reproductible, existing backtrace are not useful. Whereas with dbg package you could know where package fail.
