On the basis that the Archer C7 is ar71xx and it doesn't fail for me but lantiq does, I went looking for any sort of clue.  fortify headers messes with PATH_MAX....and my ar71xx build has buffer overflow protection (conservative) enabled in the build options....lantiq doesn't.  So after enabling, lantiq builds fine.

i've no idea what that means...I offer as an observation (and workaround)
