It might be possible to get rid of of the patch by using package/kernel/spi-gpio-custom and the mmc_spi kmod instead.

My idea is to let package/kernel/mmc_over_gpio/files/mmc_over_gpio.init insmod/rmmod the spi-gpio-custom kmod with the [[https://randomcoderdude.wordpress.com/2013/08/15/spi-over-gpio-in-openwrt/|configured parameters]] and run something like "echo spi0.1 > /sys/bus/spi/drivers/mmc_spi/[bind|unbind]" afterwards.

It's nothing more than an idea. I don't have hardware to test if it would work this way.
