Closing this issue as it will become an eternal bug without anyone ever working on it.
Some cosmetic fixes has been applied to LuCI to remap ports in the ui. Remapping in the swconfig cli util is doable if someone adds support for reading board.json to it.

Remapping ports down to the kernel level requires deep architectural changes which are unlikely to happen within LEDE. It is more likely that the swconfig subsystem will get replaced by DSA eventually.
