I don't see a coherence between enabling the serial console and a possible crash. Nevertheless your patch is a valuable addition to LEDE. Especially in case something does not work as expected.

Could you do me a favour and boot a [[http://downloads.lede-project.org/snapshots/targets/ar71xx/mikrotik/|snapshot RB493G image]] on the RB493G and provide a serial console log (yes I know it will be incomplete). If this works for you I would like to close the bug.
