I forgot to mention, this is on kernel 4.4 on the laptop(Ubuntu 16.04). No idea if a newer kernel fixes some issue on my laptop's side.

Oh another thing. I read journalctl and apparently, it succeeds in connecting to the AP(4 way handshake i guess?) but it fails upon trying to get a DHCP address. No idea if that helps.
