I can test this evening.  However I'm still not sure of the value of this approach and share Martin's concerns, given that config file based configuration is as valid as LUCI based, potentially misleading kernel messages are exposed via LUCI also, and the discrepancy is perhaps more likely to confuse for anyone who does look at both.  

For anyone making a commercial product exposing those kernel messages and command line configuration options for VLAN etc to the end user, the discrepancy would undoubtedly be raised as a "must fix" bug.

As it happens I'm just hacking around with an old free router, and to me in fact this isn't much odds, but I think it merits wider consideration (and I guess Martin is in exactly that position outlined above)
