It seems the changes you asked for in this issue have already been implemented a while ago.

Hostname handling was fixed with https://git.lede-project.org/?p=source.git;a=commitdiff;h=a4571b7631e48e4beea1fe84a09679dfa9f2291a and the LuCI support for the log protocol got added with https://git.lede-project.org/?p=project/luci.git;a=commitdiff;h=ce3eb113f46695d028eb07063b88057402dd1237
