I didn't know some drivers already did that.
Thanks for the link, I will take a closer look.

Now I wonder how many drivers already implement it and whether it makes sense or not for hostapd/wpa_supplicant to take care of it for the ones that don't (provided that it doesn't prevent other drivers from behaving normally).
