That sounds like a MediaTek specific issue on the client devices..

It would be interesting to see a wireless sniffer capture showing the
exact frames exchanged between the AP and station. I'd use an external
wireless sniffer for that, but you might also be able to add a separate
virtual monitor interface on the AP and use that monitor interface to
capture the frames.

For example, something like this:

iw dev wlan0 interface add mon0 type monitor
ifconfig mon0 up
tcpdump -i mon0 -n -s 2000 -w /tmp/mon0.pcap
