In the long term, it's easier for me if I can get patches upstream.

So, I will try to code up a patch to set the VENDOR_ELEM values using
the .conf file if you will accept the patch.

But, if you will not, then I'll just carry my v2 patch in my own
tree and deal with merge conficts as required.
