wpa_cli and wpa_supplicant communication not working after running for some time

wpa_cli is running in its background modehandling an action script. After running for few hours wpa_clijust gives up running as the PING responses fail. Also,wpa_supplicant can't pass any messages towards wpa_cli as well. Anyone observed this?
