Could not set interface mon.wlan0 flags: No such file or directory

I followed to advice to replace 'rt2870.bin' in '/lib/firmware'.
Downloaded here: 
http://www.ralinktech.com/en/04_support/license.php?sn=5030 .
Now hostapd starts but the client doesn't connect either.

My config is:

ssid=localbridge
hw_mode=g
channel=1
