adding a new station with hostapd_cli

I'd like to manually add a station to hostapd.

I was wondering, when a station is added via the 'new_sta' command with hostapd_cli the station is added to hostapd state, but will the driver be notified as well (via nl80211 - NL80211_CMD_NEW_STATION )?
