WPA2-PEAP problems

I'm just setting up a hostapd box and getting a very similar failure log
to yours.  I haven't checked exactly, but my config seems very similar
by eye.  My system is a gentoo x86 based box, so not using the same
binaries as you (for example).

Quick question: I see no difference if I try and login with the correct
password or wrong password - do you get the same? In all cases the
client appears to just hang with "authenticating" on the screen and
there is no progress seen? This seems to be a clue, but unsure how to
debug further?

This in your log file seems significant (it's also in mine):
