WPA_INACTIVE state but PING is still going on

Please check the below scenario.

1) Wpa_supplicant connected with a Wifi router using WPA2_PSK.

2) Obtained IP address, ping and net browsing both going through.

3) Pressed WPS_PBC option at the wpa_supplicant without any action
on WPS AP.

4) After 2 minute timeout happened at the supplicant and status
showing as " WPA_INACTIVE" with earlier IP address.

5) At this stage, PING goes through from the supplicant to the AP
but net browsing is blocked.

Can you please explain this. My understanding was once the PBC timout
happens, supplicant will try to go back to earlier connected wifi
router. But during handling WPS_PBC, it has made all other SSID
disabled, so after scan, it's going to WPA_INACTIVE state. But why and
how PING is going?

Regards

Soumya
