persistent group / invite persistnet

hi
1. where can I find some explanation about persistent group formation ?
2. I can't understand how it's working, let's say that we establish group,
we have GO and client for persistent group (we store the parameters in
global structure), now the client       restart , how the client know to who
to  reconnect  if we are not keeping the all deatails in the configuration
file ?
