CONFIG_DRIVER_NL80211 option

Hi all,
Can anyone confirm what the function of "CONFIG_DRIVER_NL80211" option
is? If i cotry to configure it, what else do i have to enable in
defconfig?
IS enabling ""CONFIG_DRIVER_NL80211" the only option of using the
"can_freq" option in wpa supplicant.

If someone can elaborate the relation of the nl80211 driver and scan
freq parameter, it would be great.
