Thanks! The first two patches are still under discussion, but I did
apply the third one with some cleanup and with the parts that depend on
the first two patches removed or commented out. This way the bulk of the
new code is now in my git repository and can be modified more easily in
the future while we finalize the design for the changes involving code
that applies to non-dbus cases, too.
