Hidden AP with hostapd

Hidden AP does not disable Beacon frame transmission (that would break
the network at least for all stations that use power saving); it only
removes the SSID from the Beacon frame (but it is still visible in other
frames and this mechanism is quite pointless).

hostapd is not responsible for transmitting or configuring the Beacon
frames when using madwifi driver. You will need too see driver
documentation if you are using that driver. With ath5k/ath9k, the
ignore_broadcast_ssid ould remove the actual SSID from the Beacon
frames.
