Hostapd WPA2 and XP Supplicant SUCCESS!

What kernel version do you have?
Because I had a success with my rt2500 and the 2.6.26(patched for allowing
master mode(allow-ap-vlan-modes.patch)) kernel...(even with some old
2.6.26-rc it failed...freezing the computer...)
The changelog of the 2.6.26 says:
rt2x00: Add per-interface structure (commit), enable master and adhoc mode
again (commit), enable LED class support for rt2500usb/rt73usb (commit)
