Card is a

00:08.0 Network controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. Unknown device 3253
00:08.0 0280: 1106:3253

Drivers I tested are from different sources VIA homepage, ..

DriverVer   = 03/31/2006,2.07.00.0222

DriverVer   = 01/18/2005,1.30.00.0164

The strange thing, it worked with

ubuntu-2-6-22-14-386, ndiswrapper-utils-1.49, wpasupplicant-0.5.4 and VIA Driver 03/31/2006,2.07.00.0222

I already recompiled the old version of ndiswrapper and wpasupplicant, but this didn't help

Can you think of the parts in wpa_supplicant, which may have race conditions? Is this new packet which looks like the 3/4 handshake, queued somewhere in wpa_supplicant or rather in the driver, ndiswrapper, kernel?

Which WLAN card and which NDIS driver are you using?

Well, the connection is "finished", but something triggers the handshake
to be started again.

I would guess that this slows down something enough to avoid timing
related race condition in sending out msg 4/4 and configuring the
encryption keys..
