Linux 2.6.23.1 and hostap_plx : immediate lockup!

I can confirm that there is nothing wrong with this MA301 adapter because it works fine when I put
it back into the old Linux 2.4.33 machine:

hostap_plx: 0.4.9 - 2006-05-06 (Jouni Malinen <jkmaline at cc.hut.fi>)
PLX9052 PCI/PCMCIA adapter: mem=0xffbef000, plx_io=0xf880, irq=11, pccard_io=0xff00
hostap_plx: CIS: 01 03 00 00 ff 17 ...
hostap_plx: manfid=0x0156, 0x0002
hostap_plx: cor_index=0x1 cor_offset=0x3e0
Prism2/2.5 PC Card detected in PLX9052 adapter
PLX_INTCSR=0x1001
PLX_CNTRL=0x100066d2 (Serial EEPROM present=1)
hostap_plx: Registered netdevice wifi0
prism2_hw_init: initialized in 110 ms
wifi0: NIC: id=0x8008 v1.0.0
wifi0: PRI: id=0x15 v0.3.0
wifi0: STA: id=0x1f v1.7.1
wifi0: registered netdevice wlan0
hostap_crypt: registered algorithm 'WEP'

So there's something odd about this adapter when placed in the new machine. (I've tried 2
different PCI slots, with no effect.) For reference, the prism2_plx driver doesn't work either,
but does at least give me this in the debug log after I've rebooted:

Oct 20 19:28:55 hypercube kernel: prism2plx_init: prism2_plx.o: 0.2.9 Loaded
Oct 20 19:28:59 hypercube kernel: ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:0e.0[A] -> Link [LNKB] -> GSI 5
(level, low) -> IRQ 5
Oct 20 19:28:59 hypercube kernel: irq 5: nobody cared (try booting with the "irqpoll" option)

Oct 20 19:28:59 hypercube kernel:  [<c013c31f>] handle_IRQ_event+0x11/0x3f

Cheers,
Chris
