unencrypted net

Hello,
I have read somewhere (and I don't seem to be able to find it again)
that waproamd (WLAN roaming daemon) is deprecated and wpasupplicant
should be used instead. It was said there that one could add a
generic entry at the end of wpa_supplicant.conf and so when the
configures encrypted networks (at the begining of the file) are not
available, any available unencrypted network is used instead.
Was this information correct? And, if so, what would be the right way
to do it?
Thank you in advance.
Cheers,
?ngel
