Using the following configuration files for hostapd:

interface=ath0
driver=madwifi
logger_syslog=-1
logger_syslog_level=2
logger_stdout=-1
logger_stdout_level=2
debug=4
dump_file=/tmp/hostapd.dump
ctrl_interface=/var/run/hostapd
ctrl_interface_group=0
ssid=myssid
macaddr_acl=0

and for wpa_supplicant:

network={
        ssid="myssid"
        key_mgmt=NONE
}

I got plaintext mode working but everything works well if I give the command:

   ifconfig ath0 down && iwconfig ath0 essid ""

before rerunning the wpa_supplicant! Otherwise it says:

   selected non-WPA AP 00:0b:6b:4e:36:19 ssid='myssid'
Already associated with the selected AP.
RTM_NEWLINK, IFLA_IFNAME: Interface 'ath0' added

and the STA is associated but I can't ping the AP! Another way to get the
system working is "waiting for a while" before rerunning wpa_supplicant, in
such a way it retries the association with the message:

   selected non-WPA AP 00:0b:6b:4e:36:19 ssid='myssid'
Trying to associate with 00:0b:6b:4e:36:19 (SSID='myssid' freq=2462 MHz)

and the ping works!

Has someone an explanation for such behaviour? =:-o

I'm using hostapd 0.5.7, wpa_supplicant 0.5.4 and madwifi 0.9.4.

Thanks,

Rodolfo
