hostap on prism54

I use SMC2835 (which is a softmac card) with Prism54 driver download from http://jbnote.free.fr/ 
The driver works all fine, I am able to successfully associate with AP, WEP, WPA etc works all fine

  But i am not able to work with HostAP driver. Modprobe hostap_pci etc works fine, lsmod shows that driver is loaded. But i am not able to get any wlan0 interface showing up. I have added the alias in /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf but i am not able to see any wlan0 interface showing up.

  I am using fedora core 5 with 2.6.16 kernel. Plz suggest where things might be going wrong? Firmware problem?
  Is there a step-by-step guide for fedora 5 to make hostap work
