Which EAP method are you using? Machine authentication is usually just
meaning that a different set of credentials (e.g., private key and
certificate) is used, but otherwise the authentication works as the
normal user authentication. Machine authentication would then be used
when no one is logged on to the system (e.g., to set up network
connection for the user authentication to happen over network). Most of
this is outside the scope of wpa_supplicant, i.e., one would need to
configure the system to update wpa_supplicant configuration based on
user logon.

Could you please give more details on what this setting is supposed to
do? Or at least provide ACS version number and location of that setting
in its configuration UI.
