Do you know whether the APs have been configured to require "Network
EAP" for IEEE 802.11 authentication or not? If yes, it is possible that
ipw3945 driver does not support this and that would prevent association
with the AP. At least based on a quick look at ipw3945.c from v1.1.3,
only Open System and Shared Key authentication algorithms are listed and
that would seem to indicate that auth_alg=LEAP in wpa_supplicant would
not be supported.
