Can't assign requested address

Hello all,

(See also my recent messages: "new wired driver code")
When I start wpa_supplicant with my new code I keep getting:
"Can't assign requested address" (code 49: EADDRNOTAVAIL).
When I run an old program I found on the net:
http://www.kohala.com/start/mtest.c (NOTE: I changed AF_UNSPEC to
AF_LINK again - else it wouldn't work) with:
'a xl0 1.80.c2.0.0.3'
things DO work.
Though when I include the mtest code in driver_wired.c it too gives
the EADDRNOTAVAIL.
I discovered that when I first add the multicast address through mtest
and then run wpa_supplicant it tends not to complain. I suspect
something checks to see whether the requested address is already
alligned.
Anyhow: I do not have a clue why I get this error. Help is really welcome.
