Client Certificate, Private key and passphrase usage in EAP-TLS

Hi All,

Can anyone tell me how the Client certificate, private key and passphrase are being used in the implementation of EAP-TLS on WPA Supplicant? 

Also, does the Client certificate is encrypted using the private key and is then sent to the Authentication server?
