You need a driver which enables the AP mode of the card.  HostAP does this
for Prism cards.  Once you have a driver loaded into the kernel which can
communicate with your hardware, you can use the Wireless Extensions to
control the behavior of the driver (e.g. iwconfig wlan0 mode master
etc...).
