reassociation ap

hi,
i have some doubt about reassociation process.. Can a station associate
without authentication?
	(a) In case of an OPEN authentication setup
	(b)  WEP authentication setup
	(c) WPA 

What is the difference between association and re-association?Is
re-association preceeded by (pre)authentication? in the cse of reassociation
how the new ap get infomation about the old ap?
