hostap0.2.4 on fedora core2 WEP problem

Hi,
I successfull install the hostap driver on my PC
running fedora core 2 with the 2.6.8-1.521 kernel.
I have the following problem, wenn trying to set
the WEB key (e.g. iwconfig wlan0 key 12345):

Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.

Does some one also have such a problem ?
Does some one running the hostap as an AP successfully 
with fedora core 2?

I need some advices.
