hostap/wpa_supplicant -- host goes AWOL for periods

I am using hostap/wpa_supplicant from the stable branch
(hostap_0_2_branch) and something I have noticed and just put up with
for a long time is that my laptop will just go AWOL from the network for
a minute or two and then come back.  Sometimes I have to ifup wlan0;
ifdown wlan0 to make it come back, or I can do that to get it back more
quickly than just waiting.

Any ideas?  Need more info?  Just say and I will be glad to provide it.
