I used to use these old build targets with one of my test system and did
not previously want to remove this functionality from the Makefile.
However, I'm apparently not using old targets anymore (I don't even
remember when I changed the build script ;-)).. Getting the extra
complexity away from the Makefile is always welcome and if it helps to
reduce confusion, I certainly agree with this change.
