Segmentation fault when running hostapd

I'm really confused as to why this is happening.

I'm running my own compiled kernel and hostap modules on a testing 
debian system
Linux vpn 2.4.25 #2 Wed Apr 28 05:10:46 PDT 2004 ppc GNU/Linux

hostap-source to build the modules is Version: 1:0.1.3-1
with the same version number for hostapd.

I rebuilt the debian hostapd package to not strip debugging symbols and 
the following is what I get
