Need for wlan#wds interface

Hello All,

While making the WDS link as per README we give the MAC address of another AP and new interface wlan#wds# is created. Why such interface is needed? Can we not store only MAC address of WDS link in some structure and use it whenever required instead of making a new interface as new interfaces are also assigned same functions, irq and base addresses as wlan0. 

Any help would be appreciated.
