You can use MD5 for that purpose. 
For better security, go in for TLS. It would help keeping the man-in-the-middle attacks at bay.

hostap sends the mac address as user name and as passwd for RADIUS authentication.
Is there any possibility to send a _real_, user defined  passwd ?
