HostAP 0.0.4 locking up

when I modprobe hostap_pci
I get hostap_pci: 0.0.4 - 2003-0727 (Jouni Malien <jkmaline at cc.hut.fi>)
PCI: Found IRQ 9 for device 00:0f.0
hostap_pci: Registered netdevice wlan0

and then my my machine locks up

I have a netgear ma311 card.
if you need any other info, please let me know
