Can't locate hostap_pci.o

I am using a debian woody base system with the 2.4.20 kernel.  A Netgear
MA311 pci card is installed working with linux-wlan-ng.


Hostap compiles and installs without complaint and the hostap_pci.o modules
is placed in /lib/modules/2.4.20/net.

on modprobe hostap_pci.o, I get the following

modprobe: Can't locate hostap_pci.o

Does this mean it is not finding the module in the fs or that it is not
finding the pci device?
