Bit rate setting problem - continued!

Hi all,

This is a follow-on to the previous mail sent. There is another problem that
we are facing in regards with the bit rate setting. We are unable to change
the basic rate of the access point using the iwconfig command.

The WLAN interface is set to 1Mbps. We use the following command:
iwconfig <interface> rate 11M

The above results in no change.

On reading through the man pages for 'iwconfig' we were introduced to the
concept of 'fixed rate' and 'auto'. We gather that in auto mode, the rate
fall back algorithm is enabled. But we should also be able to alter the data
rate. Why are we not able to change the data rate? Also, on execution of the
above command we observe that the data rate is displayed as fixed, i.e, on
execution of the command - iwconfig, we get a fixed lower data rate. Can
anyone help us understand better this observation.
