An alternative to changing the source code is to use the post-install module feature with the "ip" program to rename the interface after the module is loaded:

   alias eth1 hostap_pci
   post-install eth1 ip link set wlan0 name eth1 

Depending on your setup, you may need a full path to the ip program.
