for the above, i would recommend u to use manfid value instead. can't go wrong 
with the nos. and some OEMer's cards may get associated easily too although 
description may be different. :)

oh... don't u need the pcmcia module as well? else where do u plug in your 
card to? direct PCI wireless cards? if you're using direct pci wireless 
card, you'll need to "make pci" for hostap, it's a different setup from 
your previous attempt.

hope this helps. maybe the other hostap debian user(s) can help on the 
kernel modules part...
