Linksys WPC11 ver. 3 hangs on insert

I am using a Linksys WPC11 version 3 card with hostap-2002-10-12.
Sometimes, shortly after inserting the card and loading hostap_cs, my
machine hangs. Everything stops (even the console cursor stops
blinking), and I have to hit the reset button.

The last few messages I get on dmesg are:

wlan0: LinkStatus: BSSID=44:44:44:44:44:44
wlan0: LinkStatus=2 (Disconnected)
wlan0: LinkStatus: BSSID=44:44:44:44:44:44
wlan0: LinkStatus=6 (Association failed)

When it doesn't cause the machine to hang, however, the card works just
fine.

Is there any workaround for this ? The machine is an Omnibook XE3-GF,
and I'm running pcmcia-cs-3.1.33.
