hostap IAPP

Hi all,

Could any of you tell me whether hostAP can talk to other dedicated access 
points(like d-link AP).

Like I, have a hostap at one end and D-link AP at the other side, and I 
move a wireless node(Laptop) from BSS1  of hostAP to BSS2 of Dlink.
Then in can't ping any of the machines in the BSS1 governed by HostAP.

does this mean that, there is no proper communication between these two 
AP's?

Or the Dlink AP shud be set as repeater ?

Please shed light on this,
