This has gotten even worse it seems...

wlan0: LinkStatus=4 (Access point out of range)
wlan0: LinkStatus: BSSID=00:02:2d:04:3f:7c
wlan0: LinkStatus=5 (Access point in range)
wlan0: LinkStatus: BSSID=00:02:2d:04:3f:7c
wlan0: LinkStatus=4 (Access point out of range)
wlan0: LinkStatus: BSSID=00:02:2d:04:3f:7c
wlan0: LinkStatus=5 (Access point in range)
wlan0: LinkStatus: BSSID=00:02:2d:04:3f:7c

and eventually totally freezing up.  downing and upping the interface fixes
it.  very bizzare.
