Host AP setting for Linksys WPC11

Hi. all

I have question while reading web
http://www.trekweb.com/~jasonb/articles/linux_wireless2.shtml and
http://hostap.epitest.fi/ for hostAP.
Now I am setting up that in my case.
I roughly followed your description with kernel 2.4.19.
But in the kernel setting I enabled other modules, such as IEEE wavelan,
as well as "select "Wireless LAN (non-hamradio)", and select "y"".
Also I installed linux-wlan-ng-0.1.16-pre6 of prism2_cs module for
Linksys WPC11 after kernel compilation and new kernel image.
I used recent version of hostap-2002-10-12 package and wireless tool 25.

Now the strange things are
1)      lsmod
[root at yuatlinux whyless]# lsmod
Module                  Size  Used by
3c574_cs                9040   1
prism2_cs              87472   1
p80211                 24080   1  [prism2_cs]
hostap_cs              43536   0  (autoclean) (unused)
hostap                 51632   0  (autoclean) [hostap_cs]
hostap_crypt            1584   0  (autoclean) [hostap]
ds                      6720   2  [3c574_cs prism2_cs hostap_cs]
I wonder how usage of hostap_cs and hostap are zero while other modules
such as 3c574 or prism2_cs is one.
Does this mean that even the module of hostap_cs is up, the correct
usage is not made?
Do I need only hostap_cs or prism2_cs as well?
How can I mange upload hostap_cs and prism2_cs if these are needed?
Are these located in /etc/pcmcia/wireless* or /etc/wlan/*?

2)      iwconfig
[root at yuatlinux whyless]# iwconfig wlan0 essid "test"
Error for wireless request "Set ESSID" (8B1A) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Function not implemented.
I used the recent wireless tool. But iwconfig command says there is
problem.
3)      /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-wlan0
I set the script file as the following
--------
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-wlan0
DEVICE="wlan0"
IPADDR="192.168.100.1"
NETMASK="255.255.255.0"
ONBOOT="yes"
BOOTPROTO="static"
IPXNETNUM_802_2=""
IPXPRIMARY_802_2="no"
IPXACTIVE_802_2="no"
IPXNETNUM_802_3=""
IPXPRIMARY_802_3="no"
IPXACTIVE_802_3="no"
IPXNETNUM_ETHERII=""
IPXPRIMARY_ETHERII="no"
IPXACTIVE_ETHERII="no"
IPXNETNUM_SNAP=""
IPXPRIMARY_SNAP="no"
IPXACTIVE_SNAP="no"
ESSID="testBSS"
MODE=master
Is it correct one?
4)      firmware of station
I found that station firmware is 1.4.2. Is it sufficient for AP mode? If
not where and how can I upgrade for suitable firmware?

Best regards

[root at yuatlinux whyless]# lsmod
Module                  Size  Used by
3c574_cs                9040   1

ds                      6720   2  [3c574_cs prism2_cs hostap_cs]

If you shut all doors to error,
  Truth cannot enter
             - Tagore
