Hi,
I am new to hostap and was trying to install and run
hostap for the first time, when I get the above
runtime error. This is what I did:
hardware: Toshiba satellite 1555CDS laptop
linux: Mandrake 8.1 (comes with kernel 2.4.8)
hostap version: I downloaded the release a month ago.
I think it is the 2002-09-12 release.
pcmcia card: Proxim rangelan ds 8430
I did the following steps:
1. make pccard as <user>
2. make install_pccard as <root>
I did not get any build related errors. Now I
restarted the cardmgr services using:
> service pcmcia restart
The log entries in /var/logs/message is:

Any ideas about what I should do?
BTW, I did not compile the kernel or the pcmcia
sources. I am using the one that is part of the
mandrake distribution. I think the pcmcia version is:
3.1.29
I am trying to run hostap on a very limited hard
drive. So I would prefer if I do not have to recompile
the kernel (I tried downloading the source, but I
donot have enough hard disk left to untar the source
:|).
Thus, I would prefer if I can install and run hostap
without having to compile the kernel from sources. If
I should use any distribution (other than mandrake
8.1) please let me know and I can try with that.
BTW, I also tried the above with a 3Com airconnect
3CRWE737A pcmcia card with the same results.
Thanks,
Mudit
