Thanks for responses.

As it happens, I installed an application that required me to reboot and 
lo and behold all worked OK again afterwards.

Given that nothing else was problematic I'll ignore this time and if 
something else happens chase down memory, power etc.

Anyway one response prompted me to find the latest version and I 
discovered it was up to 3.36. Bit of a jump.
