OT Question on audio downloads from youtube

Its called entropy in science. If you convert say a WAV or LAC to MP3
you will loose a lot of data as the file is comressed. You will lose
the high frequences. That's what YouTube does. The sound will be
muddy. If you convert from MP3 to FLAC or WAV the sound will still be
muddy. Data once removed or compressed away will never come back. This
is my gripe with Dimeadozen which insists not only that uploaders
convert bad formats aka MP3 to FLAC, these latter files are then
uploaded masquerading as hi quality recordings. Whereas they are just
crap MP3s in an unstable format.

Folks here could usefully join the "Association for Recorded Sound
Discussion List" at <ARSCLIST at listserv.loc.gov> The guys on this are
professional restorers from audio libraries around the world including
the Library of Congress.
